AI can process data at lightning speed, but it can’t navigate the social, ethical, and contextual layers that give data meaning, nor conjure trust on its own. Together, we’ll examine the intersection of human governance and machine intelligence in the AI era and discuss how intentional governance investments can prevent pitfalls and foster stakeholder confidence in your AI deployments.

General Session: AI in Action Transforming Underwriting, Claims and Customer Engagement with Strong Data Governance
As artificial intelligence continues to disrupt the insurance industry, understanding its role in core operations like underwriting, claims, and customer engagement is critical. This session will explore how AI is reshaping these areas and why strong data governance, and Master Data Management (MDM) are essential for ensuring its responsible and effective deployment. We will discuss how governance ensures data integrity, security, and transparency while mitigating risks related to bias, privacy, and compliance.

Illuminating AI Model Lineage: Governing Data in the Age of AI in Insurance

The Intersection of Data Protection, Data Governance and AI: Driving Innovation
As insurance organizations embrace artificial intelligence, they face increasing challenges in protecting sensitive data while enabling broad access for innovation. This comprehensive session presents a unified approach to implementing AI-powered data protection that spans discovery, classification, and protection. Attendees will hear real-world examples on how to leverage AI to transform their data protection programs from cost centers into competitive advantages. This session goes beyond technical implementation to address the critical governance elements needed for success, including team structure, roles and responsibilities, and change management strategies.

A Holistic Approach to Data Quality Management
All part of the insurance value chain are connected by data. If its data is not reliable, an insurance organization can lose out on opportunity through inefficient operations, poor decisions, internal conflict, and less-than-optimal partnerships. Since insurance organizations are data-dependent, they need to understand and address obstacles to high-quality data. If they want to be data-driven, they must take a holistic view of their data and actively cultivate conditions that result in high quality data. During this session, we will identify: major challenges in high-quality data in insurance organizations; practices that can help improve and sustain data quality; characteristics of an environment where there is a strong basis for trust in data and information; and ways to take initial steps in support of a holistic approach to data quality management.

Data Products Demystified
For some, the role of data products in a mesh architecture provides slightly more clarity, while also being completely unattainable. For others, the benefits of data products loom large, but remain out of grasp in part to misguided perceptions on what they are, and how they should be managed. This combination of hype and confusion is creating chaos-- ensuring most will fail to realize any meaningful value from data products. This session will define data products, while acknowledging the definition is largely meaningless; delineate data products in a data mesh versus data products versus product management; outline concepts and benefits of product management to data and analytics teams; and provide recommendations on how to break free from the chaos.

Balancing agentic AI with human in-the-loop oversight is essential to ensure responsible and effective decision-making. While agentic AI systems operate autonomously, human involvement provides critical oversight to address ethical concerns, mitigate biases, and manage edge cases. This session will review end-end use case examples of where agentic AI and human-in-the-loop execution occurs, the benefits and risks, and incremental steps along the journey to realize the full potential of agentic AI while mitigating risk.

Data Stewardship as a Foundation for Data Culture and Acumen (Literacy)
When properly designed and implemented, data stewardship can substantially improve data quality by establishing the right accountabilities for data. It can also provide a robust foundation for building a data culture and improving data acumen (literacy), supporting AI efforts. This session will explore a comprehensive data stewardship model, and discuss a case study of how it was successfully implemented, enabling a strong data culture and acumen.
